HUU is split up into 6 Zones. The Welfare Zone of HUU features the Advice Centre, Job Shop, Liberation campaigners, Nightline and LINKs First Aid deliverers. This year we want to expand what our Zone is all about. This year in Welfare is all about bringing all students who take part in Welfare related activities into this one Network.
We have trained student volunteers in the Advice Centre, where they help deliver the Union’s fantastic service up on the 3rd floor. They are given expert training and help serve thousands of students through the year. (More Info on being an Advice Centre Volunteer and the Advice on a whole visit the Advice Centre pages)
The 4 Liberation campaigns (Women’s, Disabled Students, Black and LGBT) are headed up by chairs directly elected by self defining members of our union. There are hundreds of students that will be some part of the Liberation Campaigns throughout the year.
Nightline provide an invaluable service to students in Hull, offering a confidential and impartial service where you can phone in and speak to a Nightline member who will listen and give you emotional support and information. (Again see Nightline page for more info)
We deliver specific campaigns throughout the year that focus on student welfare issues: Housing, Sexual Health, Mental Health, Student Finance and Buddy Schemes. We will need volunteers from across the student body to help make these campaigns and events successes.
The first Welfare Network event of the year is the ‘Adopt a Fresher’ programme which we will be running during Welcome Week.
Join the Welfare Network and make a difference to students’ lives around you.
