
The Advice Centre can provide a wealth of information on consumer issues. We can provide information, advice and representation on everything from problems with banks, buying goods such as computers and second hand cars, problems with insurance or your gas company and other issues.
The Office of Fair Trading provides advice and information on a wide range of consumer rights, issues and legislation. www.oft.gov.uk has many easy-to-access information of interest to consumers.
Trading Standards Services are a source of advice and some will provide assistance. You’ll find your nearest service listed in the phone book under your local authority or you can log onto www.tradingstandards.gov.uk
Citizens Advice Bureau can help with consumer problems and with going to court. Find your nearest CAB in your local phone book or log onto www.citizensadvice.org.uk
Court Service provides information and advice about the legal process, including the small claims procedure. Log onto www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk
Trade Associations are what many contractors and suppliers of services belong to, which run arbitration schemes. They are listed in the phone directories under ‘trade associations’ or ‘institutes’.
