Looking for accommodation in Hull?

We would advise that you look at a number of properties to get a good idea about prices and the standard of accommodation available before signing a tenancy contract. Here are a few ways to start your search:

The Housing Lobby: on the first floor of the Students' Union is situated in the Student Activites Centre,  is an area dedicated to private housing. Students can advertise if they are looking for housemates or rooms. These properties are not checked by the Students' Union and it is therefore your responsibility to take adequate steps to ensure that you visit the property and check the condition and facilities before you sign a contract.

The University: (www.hull.ac.uk/accomm) The University of Hull offers University owned and managed accommodation, including Taylor Court, The Lawns,Traditional Halls of residences and Student Houses. The Scheme is the University Accredited landlords system operated by the university and is a student accommodation service that provides information about all types of accommodation including houses, flats and lodgings in the city. Further information can be found at the scheme website, www.the-scheme.com.

Private Landlords & Management Agencies: These can range from a landlord who owns one property to an agency who owns/manages over 200 houses. Adverts can be found at www.the-scheme.com , shop windows, the Hull Daily Mail or by visiting the Management Agencies themselves. Many of these are located on Cottingham Road and Newland Avenue which gives you easy walking access from the University.

The Hull Daily Mail: www.thisisishullandeastriding.co.uk  newspaper has numerous classified adverts for accommodation every day. Every Thursday there is a larger section on accommodation and this is particularly helpful if you are looking for housing suitable for families or couples.

Hull Colour Pages: www.hullcolourpages.co.uk  publication contains details of most landlords in Hull, if you look under the 'accommodation' section. Families especially may wish to obtain more suitable accommodation from non-student landlords.

If you need a Bed and Breakfast (B&B) for short-term accommodation in Hull then a list is available at: www.hullcc.gov.uk/visithull/accommodation.php

Popular Student Areas include: Cranbrooke Avenue, Cottingham Road, Beverley Road, Newland Avenue, Princes Avenue, the village of Cottingham. For more information on these areas contact the Advice Centre.
