Other funding options

If you do not feel your funding is sufficient, the following may help:

  1. Visit the Job Exchange which provides a service for students searching for part-time work. The email is huu-jobexchange@hull.ac.uk or the website is www.hullstudent.com/jobshop
Wednesday is also the jobs section in the Hull Daily Mail which might be worth looking at.
  2.

  3. Depending on your crediting rating you may be able to open a student bank account with interest free overdraft as another mean of income. Shop around to get the best offer; taking into account the overdraft limit, cheque guarantee card limit, special offers, interest rates (especially if you go over your limit), accessibility to branches, graduate facilities and whether the local branch has a Student Officer (as it often helps to deal with staff who understand the needs of students). Shop around to find the best offer http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/Student-bank-account

  4. If you are struggling financially, you may be entitled to Hardship Funds. The main one is the Access to Learning Fund; this is a University hardship fund provided by the government which awards Home Students with a shortage of funding with non-repayable grants. You can pick up an application form from the Advice Centre or from Student Loans and Hardship at 3rd floor of the welfare hub. There is a Personal Statement section to fill out, which we recommend you include as much detail as possible regarding your circumstances. You will also need to provide various documentary evidence, all of which is explained in the guidance.

The Advice Centre can check over your completed form for you. You will then need to arrange an appointment with Student Loans and Hardship by calling 01482 462020.

You can download the Access to Learning Fund application form at:
    http://www2.hull.ac.uk/student/pdf/ALF%20application%20form%2010.11.pdf
  5. University bursaries & scholarships:
The University of Hull Bursary is a non-repayable amount-if your annual residual household income is less than £25,000, you will receive a bursary of £1,000 per year; if your annual residual income is between £25,001and £40,000 you will receive a bursary of £500 per year for your Programme of Study. When you filled out your student loan application (PN1), you must have completed sections 11 and 13 to consent to sharing your residual family income with the University. Payment will be made directly into your bank account in two instalments, one in the first week of February and one in the first week in May. If you want to check that you have authorised these sections, contact www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance.

University of Hull Scholarships are a non-repayable amount of £1,500 per year awarded by Academic Departments, if you have achieved academic excellence before starting University. Required excellence levels vary between disciplines, and are expressed in A-level terms, but if you have other qualifications, special circumstances and/or achievements you may also be eligible. Conditions for this: you must be eligible to pay UK tuition fees of £3,290 per academic year. Scholarships will be awarded for the first 2 years of your programme with continuation thereafter dependent on your performance in your second year. Payment will be directly into your bank account in two instalments, one in the first week of February and one in the first week of May. Applying: You may obtain an application form from the Academic Department to which you have made your UCAS application. If you are completing A-Levels this year the University will automatically consider you for a Scholarship.
