Environment and Ethics

Who we are?
We are the HUU Environmental and Ethical Committee, the main body at Hull University Union behind all environmental and ethical movements. We educate, encourage, and enlighten both staff and students to become more ethically minded in their practice. Through lobbying institution, we ensure that your university is doing everything it can to imbed E&E in its practice. We are and will remain a body of scrutiny, holding those with the power to count for the environmental and ethical practices they work along.

If you are interested in joining the E&E committee, or have any suggestions for policy and possible changes, contact the chair, Joe Brownridge, at j.w.brownridge@2009.hull.ac.uk and join our facebook group ‘HUU Environmental and ethical committee’

Our strategic plan for 2011/12:

  • Achieve Gold in the Green Impact Student union
  • Achieve a First class rating in the People and Planet League, currently the UoH holds a third class award with a score of 25.5 out of 70 available points.
  • To promote and participate in WWF Earth Hour, World Water Day and Fairtrade fortnight
  • To hold a ‘Go Green week’ event that raises awareness of Environmental issues
  • To encourage biodiversity where ever possible
  • To campaign for the sale of more ethically and environmentally responsible products.
  • To Campaign for affiliation to the workers rights consortium. The workers rights consortium is an organisation set up to monitor conditions within factories, ensuring that garments are not being produced in sweat shop conditions.
