► Pippa Saunders

Pippa Saunders – Ladies Captain & Social Sec 08/09

Pip has been appointed Ladies Captain for the coming year by Wee Man, as the most experience lady we have on our squad this year, and with plans to seriously launch the Ladies team this year, Pip and Wee Man have a big job ahead!

The Ladies will, of course, train with the guys at Club training sessions, however myself and Robbie will also be running Ladies only training sessions, away from the more aggressive guys, in an effort to make the Ladies feel more welcome and allow them an extra session a week to develop their throws in a more relaxed environment!

Firstly, I am writing this instead of Pip whilst she cracks on with her MSc Geography dissertation, a much more valid excuse than Zachary’s of just being shit at life...but its all good!

The Ladies team will become a large part of the squad this coming year, making up half of the Mixed squad as well as going off to represent the Univeristy at all the Ladies tournaments that we can get them entered into!  With interest already expressed in the Womans Indoor Regional tournament in November, Pip will be leading the Ladies onto the pitch for the first time, in what will be most likely only her third ever tournament!  Having been hanging around Hulltimate for nearly three years now, and with plans to play seriously and get herself to training and tournaments ruined last year due to a serious knee injury, she is now on the recovery curve and is planning to split her fourth year in Hull between Badminton and Ultimate!

Having only just returned from her first ever tournament up in Troon, (MacBeach) where she performed like a seasoned player, making cuts and throws that put shame to many more experienced players, and showing a coolness on the disc that is a rarity in new players and a level of fitness, even with an injury that has set a benchmark for several, less fit (myself included!) players to follow!  Side note:  I will be fit for the start of Freshers week...promise!

Pip is a fantastic new player that has already earned a place on the starting line for the Mixed team, and if she keeps going as she is now, I can see her grabbing a place on the Open team before Christmas!

Performance off the pitch, i.e. at the party, is indicative of an individual that has spent many many Wednesdays in the Johnny Mac!  With MacBeach seeing Pip celebrate her 21st, it also saw her do her first ever Three Pint Challenge, with another of our Freshers, Mungo (who might need some practice....) followed by her first ever representation of Hulltimate in a Boat Race!

And thus, with a new team to launch in the coming year, I am dead chuffed to announce that Pip will be our Ladies Captain for 08-09, which promises to be an awesomely busy year for everyone!
