Outdoors - 3G Pitches

We train on one of the University's outdoor 3G Pitches, usually once a week on a Wednesday afternoon (pretty much all the AU teams train or play on a Wednesday afternoon, as nearly EVERYONE has no lectures) The surface consists mainly of rubber bits with grassy looking shit (exceptionally technical I know but if you want to know about our 3G Pitches check out the Training Times page on the left and there is a link waiting for ya!)  Its pretty nice to run on, except your not allowed to wear certain boots on it.  I believe that your not allowed to wear blades, but normal studds are ok...well I wear normal studds...

What to expect:

This training session has one of our longest practice matches in it!  However we do do quite a few drills first, these drills, although sometimes repetitive, are there to help you to understand the concepts of the various stratergies we use to chump the other teams!  Expect leading pass drills, hucking drills, marking drills, and general throwing drills!  Followed by a 7-a-side Ultimate match, although the pitch isn't quite full size, its still the high-light of my week, especially when I have been chained to my Computer programming all day!

What to bring:

Water.  Lots and lots of water.  For the first few weeks at least...its probably going to be quite hot and sunny...plus being even a little bit dehydrated can effect your sports performance (will steal the poster in the toilets at work today as that has some good statistics on it that will make me sound real clever!)  Quite a few of our players wear Baseball hats whilst we play, as it helps keep the sun out of our eyes, sunglasses are ok, but if you layout into the wall, don't expect even your Oakley's to survive...sunglasses are ok during drills etc but not really for games!  Loose jewals ain't a fantastic idea either as they could easily be ripped off by a over zealous marker!  Trainers are fine playing on this surface in any weather, however some people prefer to play in boots as its easier to dig right into the ground and stop for a crazy turn!  If your not sure, bring both and find out which ones you like best!

AGAIN - BRING MONEY FOR ALCOHOL!
