Outdoors - Grass

We usually train on the grass pitches outside Asylum on a Sunday afternoon, do not be fooled by the time...this is one of our most intense training sessions with lots of drills and a fantastic game on a full sized Ultimate pitch!  This is the session to attend if you want to experience Ultimate as it was meant to be played!  The skill level required to play outdoors (quality of throws, timing of cuts, tight defence) is much higher than indoors.  Firstly the pitch is HUGE compared to what we usually train on.  The end zones are 10 times the size of those indoors, allowing for more elaborate "plays" when the disc gets right down to the end zone line and nice swings across the pitch making play intense and a lot faster!

What to expect:

Expect drills.  The Sunday training session is usually the only one we have on real grass, and when we play outdoor tournaments its very VERY unlikely we will be playing on a fancy 3G pitch!  This is the time to get tactics (experienced team) and to build on the basics of Ultimate for the beginners!  The drills will typically consist of "hucking" drills which basically evolves a throw, which will most likely be an experienced player, a D player and an O player.  Basically "hucking" means throwing the disc as far as possible for one of your team mates to run onto, and is very useful for the outdoor game as the pitch is so big!  These kinds of drills will help you beginners to learn how to "read" the disc (see where it’s going!) and will also give you the opportunity to show up some of us more experienced players with an awesome layout D!  More drills will typically include end zone drills and passing drills, as well as more marking!

What to bring:

At the beginning of the year it might be possible to get away with trainers, but as soon as it starts raining (and it will...) you're gunna need studded boots!  You can pick up a cheap pair in town in Sports n Soccer (or however you fucking spell it!) or you can go for some real tasty ones...(like mine) what ever you do you really NEED studs for this session!  Otherwise you won't really stand much of a chance of being able to play and enjoy Sunday training!  Ultimate is based on sharp turns and sudden stopping so make sure you get the right gear!  Again bring plenty of water and a light and dark shirt!  We shall be placing orders for Hulltimate kit pretty soon after the start of the first semester, and then you can stop bringing your own and start bringing your cool Hulltimate gear!  Another note, Hull gets cold.  So make sure you bring kit according to what the weather is doing!  If it’s pissing down, bring more than one layer and maybe a waterproof jacket to drill in.  Think about investing in some Under Armour or something similar...or if you can't afford it, go down Primark and grab a three quid long sleeve t-shirt...generally you get hot quite quickly whilst playing Ultimate but, if you sub-off for a point, and the point drags on, you may end up getting cold!  You have been warned...Hull is right fucking cold!

AGAIN, ALCOHOL WILL BE PARTAKEN IN SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR WALLETS, PURSES, HANDBAGS, MANBAGS, WHAT EVER YOU KEEP YOUR DOLLAR IN INNIT!
