Hailing from Oldham in the wet and windy Northwest I have been playing various sports since the ages of 6 such as football, tennis, rugby league, golf etc. my main passion lay with football but after playing that for years I wanted to try my hand at a new sport, anything to keep me active at university. I went to the sports marquee during fresher’s week and was approached by a friendly face telling me about Ultimate; it was definitely something very interesting that was worth a look.

I turned up to there 2nd training session and was quickly shown how to throw a backhand and the side arm, I picked it up quite quickly to my surprise but I was still a little confused by stacking and cutting (but this all comes in time). During my 1st year I played in the Sheffield beginner’s tournament which we sadly got knocked out at the semi finals. After many tournaments and awesome socials throughout the year Ultimate has become the only sport I ever want to play as there are so many friendly faces around the UK and you’ll make many new friends at Hull and other universities too. Ultimate is a team game and Hulltimate has become somewhat of a family to me and all the members get along really well and are willing to help you learn what may seem like a difficult sport. Just remember if it doesn’t come straight away don’t panic, just ask a fellow member for a chuck around and you will see yourself improving over time.

I hope to see more fresh faces at fresher’s week this year and I see you at training for some fun filled Ultimate.
