I want to stand for a post in the Student Union next year. How do I put myself forward?
Details on what elections are comming up and how to nominate yourself for a Union position are available on the website and various points around the building. Elections take place in Week 5 and Week 7 or Semester 2. All current University of Hull students are welcome to apply.
Can I bring guests to the student nights?
Yes, you can bring 2 guests on a student night. They must be over 18, have photo id and be signed in by a student. This costs £1. You are then responsible for your guests behaviour whilst on the premises.
Where can I buy food in the Union Building?
There are a number of places to buy food in the building. On the ground floor, there is the Continental Café, which serves hot food, snacks and drinks. Also on the ground floor, Sanctuary Bar serves a range of snacks, such a panninis, bacon butties etc. Sandwiches and cold snacks are available in the Union Shop on the first floor, where they usually have a ‘meal deal’ on offer. There is also a University-run cafeteria on the 2nd floor where you can buy a range of hot and cold food.
How do I get involved in Sport?
Best place to contact is the AU (Athletic Union). You can do this by ringing 01482 466254 or emailing h.shooman@hull.ac.uk. They have a long list of sports clubs to join and be part of. Alternative, if you require gym facilities you can contact the Sports & Fitness Centre on 01482 466234. Please also visit our website pages for the SFC and AU.
Do you offer Childcare Facilties?

How can I find part-time work?
We have a Job Exchange Service, located on the first floor of the Union Building. Here, you can find all types of part-time to jobs to suit your lectures etc. Contact Laura on 01482 466297 or via the website by visiting
Is there any internet access?
Yes, new for September, there will be an internet café area where you will be able to use our facilities, free of charge. You will need to use your University log-in to access the systems.
Where can I smoke in the Union?
Due to the smoking ban which came into force on 1 July, smoking is no longer allowed anywhere within the Union buildings. However, you can smoke outside Sanctuary Bar, on the Keith Martin Terrace or if you are in Asylum, you may smoke in the newly constructed secure smoking shelter at the rear of Asylum. For help on quitting smoking, contact the Advice Centre 01482 466263.
Do you offer a faxing service?
Yes, you can fax from the Reception Desk on the ground floor. We charge 15p per page (minimum 30p) for faxes in the United Kingdom and other chargers for Worldwide. Incoming faxes are received in the Admin Office on the first floor. There is no charge for incoming faxes.
Where I can buy stamps and post a letter?
Stamps area available in the Union Shop of the first floor of the building. There is a post box on site outside the revolving doors which is collected daily 12.30pm and 5.30pm.

How do I get an NUS Card and do I need one to enter the Student Union?
You can apply for an NUS Extra Card online at www.nusextra.co.uk . You will need to upload a photograph and pay be credit/debit card. Your card will then be delivered to either your home address or the Union Reception where it can be collected. The price of an NUS Extra card is currently £10. It is not required to gain entry to the Student Union, if you hold a current University of Hull Library Card.
I am having problems with my course. Where can I get help?
You can get advice about this and a whole range of other things from our in-house Advice Centre. It is located on the first floor of the Union Building. Click here to be directed.
