Asylum is home to the infamous AU night, the Tower, hosted by resident DJ Davey Jay as well as Snakebite at only £1.40. The Tower is definitely the most popular student night in Hull with regular high numbers of attendance every Wednesday night.

If that wasn't enough, Saturdays at Asylum are mental! With every drink priced at a crazy £1.50 and entry starting at £1.50 too, you sure to go home with enough money for a kebab. Brassick, The ultimate student night!!!

This summer, we have spent several thousand pounds in Asylum and the John McCarthy Bar, priming and preening to get it back to a newer and fresher appearance for all you lovely Freshers! And for all you returning students, you’ll be happy to know, the place has even been repainted – it is now bigger and better than ever to cater for our Union events, as well as incoming guest bands, including three enormous subs!

Complementing Asylum on an evening is the John McCarthy Bar, more fondly known as the Johnny Mac. Whilst both venues are available for hire, (please contact the Ents department for further details), the Johnny Mac is favoured by societies and clubs due to its intimate atmosphere. And this year, it is getting a new carpet ready for your first AU social.

Tuesday nights are home to the ever popular quiz, which, again due to popular demand, has found its way back home to the Johnny Mac. Not only do we have a new host this year – so be nice to him – we’ve got new prizes too! Last year, the record jackpot was over £800!

Newly opened in 2005 is the Sanctuary Bar. This is the bar which is open throughout the day and now serves an extensive menu, ranging from the Towering Inferno, to something as simple as Nachos, as well as daily barbeques during the summer (British weather permitting, of course!) Prices in all the bars are highly competitive and more often than not, will be the cheapest in Hull.

Sanctuary is also home to the impossibly popular karaoke night on Thursdays. Crowds turn up hours before the singing begins, just to get a seat!
