It’s been a wonderful start to the year. So far we have successfully elected 507 Course Reps, of which we have trained over 306 Course Reps, and at our first Academic Council we had over 110 Course Reps attending, debating academic issues and feeding back on University policy.

The Education Zone has become a hippopotamus, 2 years of sustained growth has obtusely shown that more and more students are taking leadership in their learning and effectively engaging in the development of the student experience.

The Education Zone committee is also working effectively. An away day helped everyone to come up with plans of what they wanted to achieve this year, and we are already seeing progress.

“I love chairing the Education Zone committee, it is really important that HUU actively represents students on academic issues and I look forward to helping all of its members achieve their goals.” Lauren Fincham.

The main priority for me this year will be the HUU Student Led Teaching Awards. For the first time ever, students will have the opportunity to nominate members of staff within the University of Hull to achieve a range of awards. More information about this will follow in the coming weeks, but look out for your opportunity to nominate!

Also this year, HUU will be leading a campaign related to Support and Retention. We had a really good strategy day last week exploring the journey that students go on during their study at the University. We discussed how we as a Union as well as the UoH could better support students through their time here. Our next stage is to gain as many views from students as possible and we will be organising an ideas cafe in the coming weeks.

That’s all from me.
