Course Reps are students just like you. At the beginning of the academic year they are elected to be at the forefront of the representation system, giving them a unique opportunity to raise issues or problems to University members of staff and heads of departments through Staff/Student committees (SSC). Find out who your Course Rep is on this link here.
These SSC meetings are the core responsibility of Course Reps and are the base of the whole representation system, funnelling all the important issues up to higher levels. More importantly the SSC is the forum of real change – Course Reps can and have made massive changes within courses and the university as a whole by raising and debating issues at the departmental level.
Your Course Rep should keep you informed on how they are representing you, so look out for lecture shouts, facebook messages and emails. Furthermore, all course reps, faculty reps and senate reps attend Academic Council. Academic Council ensures we can track and progress big or university wide issues. Due to all their hard work, we reward our Course Reps with awards, socials and prizes. Course Reps have a great social environment too, so what better way to make some new friends while picking up new skills and enhancing your CV?
If your department is running elections at the moment, you can download a nomination form here and hand it into your department.
