Education

Welcome! My name is Chris and I’m the Vice President Education at Hull University Students’ Union (HUU). I’m a student, elected by students and represent you all on academic issues in the University, locally and nationally. Along with this I work with the other elected officers to run HUU.

You can find me and the rest of the Education team on the 1st floor of the Union building. The Education Hub is the large blue office next to the Common Room and my office is the 1st on the left down the corridor.
In the Education Hub you can find Kasia, who is our Education & Representation coordinator. She’s here to make sure all student reps are organised and trained and provides support for them during the year. Her role also includes Education research and aiding the Education Zone throughout the year. The hub is also a place for reps to meet and work.
Education Zone notice boards are situated outside the Education Hub, outside my office and on the Ground Floor of the Union Building on the side of the stairs by the shop. These will be updated regularly and will inform students about latest Academic issues, campaigns and goings on in the Education Zone.
About myself
As well as serving students at Hull as the Vice-President (Education) I was elected as an active member of Workers' Liberty - a revolutionary socialist organisation fighting for working-class politics within the labour and students movements. My politics are libertarian and communist. I am a feminist and a trade unionist.
As I said during our election campaign, there are no 'apolitical' candidates for sabbatical posts, just candidates with different political positions. I believe that Sabbaticals should be informed politically, as long as they can justify their actions truthfully through the prism of student representation and advocacy. I hope you find I am always able to do so.
My door is always open for questions/discussion.

VP Education is here to help on any academic issues. Whether you are having trouble with coursework, deadlines, timetabling, exams, or academic staff, we can point you in the right direction!

An integral part of academic support is provided by over 300 Student Reps from all areas of the University. These reps are student volunteers who represent their fellow students at various University committees ranging from Staff-Student Committees (SSC) at departmental level, all the way up to University Senate! Anyone can be a Student Rep - all you need is enthusiasm and a desire to get the student point of view across to the University. Being a Student Rep is one of the most important things you can do whilst at University.
