26th February 2008

Hi everybody!

The Union and University are buzzing with all the excitement of elections (good question at this stage: have YOU voted already??) but for the ISA things have calmed down a little after the hectic last few weeks.

The two big Europe trips to Amsterdam and Paris went absolutely brilliant - for the first time we took almost 200 students overseas to great weekend holidays in these major cities. We had a lot of great feedback, and thanks to all of you who came along and made it worthwhile.

This weekend, we go to Liverpool on Saturday for our next day trip - despite Amsterdam and Paris just being the last two weekends, we have so much interest we're looking into getting a 3rd bus. So if you haven't booked your place yet, come along to the office. There is great chance that you can still go!

Easter is approaching already, and before that we will have one more of those popular ISA parties, on Thursday 6th March. And just when you're back from your break, we get back into the swing with another party and Culture Night coming up. You see, it won't be boring - you can get our semester 2 schedule on this website.

And feel free to contact me with anything else you want to talk about. Oh yes, before I forget - after this week, the next ISA president will have been elected (vote, vote, vote!!) and after Easter we will hold the elections for next year's Exec committee. If you feel up for the challenge and want to join in in the fun, drop us a line!

So long.

12th February 2008

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all well and not too stressed yet with the Semester 2 workload. It's just the start of Week 3 and already the ISA is incredibly busy. The Semester 2 opening party was a huge success, probably the biggest we had this year. And we have just sorted the date for the next one: Thursday, 6th March will see the ISA break up for Easter holidays with a big party in Asylum - hope to see you there!

This Thursday, 70 lucky students set off for a 4-day trip to Amsterdam - an amazing experience guaranteed in this most liberal of European capitals. And just a week later, 120 students will be going to Paris, again for a 4-day trip.

We are just finalising the Semester 2 Event calendar which will hopefully be ready to poster and pick up later this week. Apart from the next ISA party, before Easter we cram another day trip in - this time to the musically historical city of Liverpool.

And last but not least - today was the deadline to hand in nomination forms for the upcoming HUU elections. Make sure you have your say who will be my successor and of course also vote on all the other Union positions.

The choice is yours - make use of your vote!

Happy new Year!

even though we are already well into the new year and the new semester has just started... I apologise for not updating you for a while, but you know how it is - christmas holiday, exam period, the general manic of the ISA...

But now I'm back with exciting news with what's going on for International students. We just had the arrival weekend, at which a new bunch of exchange students arrived - and next Friday sees the start of Semester 2 with our great ISA party, and on the Sunday we take the new students to York.

But that's not all: the two following weekends we will go abroad to Amsterdam and Paris. Two exciting trips which have completely sold out (although, a couple of spaces have become available due to people dropping out - come by the office asap if you're interested).

The rest of the semester is jam packed with exciting events as well, but I won't reveal too much just yet. Watch this space or sign up to our weekly newsletter!

Have a good start into the 2nd semester!

16th November 2007

Hello all!

time is flying past and the time has come again to update you about what's going on with your UEO International Students.

It's Children in Need Day today and everyone in the union is out and about to get your donations - I hope you give plenty! A huge thank you at this point to everyone who came to our ISA Party in aid of Children in Need, where we raised a total of £532.68 from tickets and your donations!

This weekend also sees the big weekend ISA and GIAG Trip to Edinburgh - while I have to unfortunately stay behind and spend my weekend in the library, I hope all you students going there are having a blast!

What else is in the pipeline? We have already started organising our big trip abroad in the second semester, so watch this space for more info soon. But even in the next weeks we have stuff coming up, our big music festival "Sound of Hull" and the exciting ISA Winter Ball.

Looking forward to see you there - have a great week and hope you're doing better with your essays than me :-)

2nd November 2007

Hi everyone!

It's Friday afternoon, and I hope you guys are all fired up for tonight's ISA Party. This one is gonna be big: for the first time ever we hold it in Asylum, it's a themed night and for Charity! So I hope to see you all in you 60's, 70's and 80's costumes dancing like crazy to your favourite ISA tunes and music from the past decades in the mix. Apart from us donating £1 from each ticket to Children in Need your ISA Committee will be all dressed up and collection your donations - please come along, enjoy the fun and give plenty!

What else is new? Tomorrow early morning I will go to attend a conference for International Student Officers - a great chance to find out what other unis do for their international students, and hopefully we can learn a lot from that. But best is probably, as always, if you guys let me know, what you expect from us.

Just drop me a line at [h.loeffler@hull.ac.uk] - I hope to hear from you soon!

22nd October 2007

Hello all!

It's Monday of Week 5 now, and to be honest - I'm shocked at how fast the weeks fly by! We've already had plenty of great events - two weeks ago we took 150 students across to York and last Friday we organised the first ever ISA Party in Scarborough.

Still, we don't just want to be happy with what we achieved so far - there is plenty for us to do. Next weekend is our second trip, this time to the beautiful city of Cambridge and at the moment we are waiting for Scarborough students to fill up the coach that will leave from there.

It's hard work organising events for the students over there, but it's rewarding to see and hear the appreciation - because until now, nothing was ever organised!

I'll keep you all updated on the progress of our big "Project Scarborough", until then give us your continued support and come to our events.

So long!

10th October 2007

Hello everyone!

We're already at Week 3 into the semester and things have both calmed down a bit and gotten busy again. ISA Exec Committee Elections are live online at the moment (http://www.hullstudent.com/election/) and although the preparations were stressful, everything seems to run smoothly now.

Results will be announced tomorrow at 5pm in the John McCarthy Bar, and I am very excited to find out who will be on the team for the rest of the year.

Apart from that we have our first trip coming up - York this Saturday. Thanks to the great work of my VP, Ioanna, that one is mostly off my shoulders and we actually almost have 3 coaches sold out - a fantastic result.

I am very excited about the preparations for our first ISA event in Scarborough: the social on the 19th October - we all hope it will be a great success and a start to many more events over there.

That's all from me for now, keep supporting us at our events or just come by the office and say hi!

2nd October 2007

Hello all!

It's week 2 of the new semester and I am trying to recover a bit from the bad cold I have. The last three weeks have definitely taken their toll, but I can be very happy with what we have achieved already.

International Welcome Week was a great success, and the first party we hosted was attended by a huge crowd. The number of members so far has broken all records and to my personal satisfaction we have reached out to quite a few British students and Internationals in Scarborough.

There is still plenty to do, because we have committed ourselves to events in almost every week of the semester. We have plenty of things up our sleeve for you and I promise that it will be great. Hopefully all of you come along to one or the other event, so I will get to meet you there!

Until after our elections in Week 3 our Exec committee is still running with only half the people, so you will surely find me hopping around in the ISA office almost everyday between my lectures. Feel free to come along and say hi!

18th September 2007

Hi everybody!

It’s the middle of International Welcome Week, new students arriving hourly and I just have a moment to breathe and start my blog. Should I start with introducing myself? My name is Heiko Loeffler, I’m from Germany and a 4th year Chemistry student. This year I have taken up the new position of UEO for International Students. I am here to represent international students on the UEC and also work as the president of the ISA - the International Students Association. Together with my committee I organise events such as regular parties, sports and music events, trips around the UK and Culture Night.

One of my goals for this year is to get everybody involved: I want to specifically invite British students to our events and get all people to meet and make new friends from all over the world - because that would make us truly international.

If you have any questions, you can usually find me in the ISA office within the Student Activities Centre on the 1st floor of the Union. Feel free to email me on [h.loeffler@hull.ac.uk]
