Happy Halloween! I've got lots of things to celebrate at the moment...
Firstly, Jamfire on Friday night was a huge success. We held it to launch JAMradio (which started broadcasting yesterday, click here to listen) and Hullfire Online, but because everyone had such a good time we've decided we're going to make it a regular thing, with more chances to see an eclectic mix of local talent coming up over the next year.
The November issue of Hullfire has gone to print and is looking, as James (the editor) would put it, "sexygood" - hopefully that will be with us sometime this week so look out for it on the stands in the Union in the next few days.
Speaking of Hullfire, it has been shortlisted (I've been reliably informed that this sounds better than nominated!) for Student Magazine of the Year in the Guardian's Student Media Awards - this is a huge achievement and it's (for fear of sounding ridiculously cliched) an honour just to be nominated *sob*. Joking aside, this couldn't have happened without the commitment and hard work of last year's editorial team so congratulations to them.
Last week, during a mammoth Finance Committee meeting, £2,288.94 was awarded to societies for a whole array of things ranging from mic stands to water bottles.
It's been a crazy few weeks here, and I'd like to say a quick thank you to the staff and the rest of the sabb team for their support :)

So Freshers is almost a distant memory and we're well into week 2 - don't know about you but I'm exhausted already. I hope you're settling into your new timetables and working hard! As I'm sure you'll have noticed around the Union, Hullfire is out and looking beautiful - well done to the editorial team for all their hard work.
The plans for JAMfire (the launch party for JAMradio and Hullfire Online) on 26th October are well under way - we've got a couple of amazing local bands signed up already so keep looking out for more information about that coming up in the next few weeks! JAMradio officially launches on 29th October so again, keep your eyes peeled for information on that as well as flyering teams around campus nearer the time.
Til next time!

I honestly can't believe Freshers week starts tomorrow. I'm really excited to see old and new faces but completely bewildered as to where summer went! I've been to the Lawns today to take some photographs before everyone moves in - it was like a ghost town but by this time tomorrow, nearly 1000 students will have descended on it and be calling it home. Bizarre!
This week's been a really good one - I've had a chance to meet some of our new international students (in fact me and Shoo are currently on the front page posing with some of them) and am hitting Asylum tonight for the International Freshers Party. I'll be back in there again tomorrow night because I just can't resist a bit of Scott Mills-related entertainment!!
Hullfire has gone to print and will be available next week in glorious technicolour (on the front at least!). JAMradio also launches next week so be sure to pick up a copy of Hullfire and have a read whilst listening to JAM by clicking <here>.
I'm going to finish this up by saying I hope you all have the best Freshers ever next week, and I'd like to think that this is the year to get involved! Be sure to get down to our AU Bazaar on Tuesday, Societies Bazaar on Wednesday and our brand spanking new Volunteering Fair on Thursday for a whole host of things to occupy your free time when you're not studying hard!

Not long to go now until Fresher's! Everyone here is running round like mad to make this year kick off better than it ever has before. As I type this, the Hullfire editors are frantically putting together our first edition of the year which will be on stands all around the Union, and maybe some other special places from the start of Fresher's week. Also, members of JamRadio are updating their extensive music database with some of the summer's biggest tunes and some songs we guarantee will be massive in the next few months. All in all, while it's a really hectic time for us here at HUU, if you're a new or continuing student then you're going to love what we've got planned!

Been a while since I last posted, so this is long overdue... Hope you are all having a good summer, while some of us are working hard getting ready for the new year! I've been spending a lot of time getting Hullfire and JAMradio ready for re-launch in September - I spent last weekend at the Scout Jamboree for an article that will be appearing in Hullfire some time next semester so keep a look out for that one!
I've also been making preparations for the Societies and Volunteering Bazaars. It's the first time we're holding a separate volunteering bazaar but you'll find out that volunteering covers a lot more than you might think (including our student media) so make sure you get down there and get involved.
As ever, I'm always available if you have any questions about absolutely anything and you can reach me at charlotte.hill@hull.ac.uk or on 01482 466245.
Take care guys,
Charli

Hi, Charli here! I'm just getting settled into my office at the moment and making a massive to-do list of things for me to do before term starts in September. During dull moments I'll try to post any updates on what I've been up to!
