Your Union

Student Committees
As part of our Democratic Stucture, our Constitution allows for a number of Committees whose membership is elected by you, our members. These Committees have a specific remit as set out in the constitution and defined in more detail in their own Standing Orders. Details of the Standing Orders are available from the General Office on the first floor of the Student Union or from the Union Office on the Scarborough Campus.

Finance and Commercial Services Committee
The Finance & Commercial Sevices Committee is an elected body made up of 8 students, it is chaired by the Union Secretary & Treasurer, plus the Union President attends as well as, Finance Manager and General Manager, all who act as advisories. This important Committee does just what it says on the label - Finance. It is responsible for the preparation of budgets and it controls the money spent to ensure that the members of HUU get the best. These people really do hold the strings!

The Committee will receive requests for funds from things as small as a kettle, to things as big as a minibus, as well as deciding on Grant applications for Societies. The Committee works alongside the Finance Department to ensure that HUU runs efficiently and that the most important people are represented - YOU! A position on this Committee is ideal for anyone studying Finance, Maths, Accountancy and Management. However, any one can stand for election and become involved.

The Commercial Services side looks at the areas run by the Union, i.e. the bars, catering, entertainments and the shop. Important decsisions about the direction of union services are made here.

Employers are now looking for more than just a degree, the knowledge of budget principles and experience of managing finances for a large charity will go a long way, not to mention the ability to think objectively!

The Finance Committee meets weekly to discuss issues and scrutinise the accounts and have a great time whilst doing it! If you want to get your hands on the Union's money then come along to one of our meetings to see how it is done.

Marketing and Media Committee
The Marketing and Media Committee is team consisting of an elected body made up of 6 students, the VP (Media & Volunteering) plus a representive from Hullfire and Jam 1575 who report on activities in their area.

This Committee provides a means of communication between the members of HUU and the Student run media services within the Union. The Committee also assist and support the VP (Media and Volunteering) in promoting the Union as a centre for student activity and support services

Employers are now looking for more than just a degree, the experience of working on a Committee for a large charity will go a long way, not to mention the ability to think objectively!
