Hi-lights is the HUU Awards scheme for volunteers involved with the Union. It aims
to help you use your volunteering experience so you can stand out in the job market and rewards students who have shown outstanding contribution to the community.

The Scheme runs throughout the year, and is developed to enhance your understanding of the skills your are developing while you volunteer. It also enables you to communicate your skills and experience effectively in job application sand at interview. To do this, we give you access to a wide variety of training sessions and workshop[s and give you recognition for your volunteering.

Who can take part?
Any student involved in volunteering in or out of the Union. This includes:
HUSSO
RAG
Athletic Union Executive
Societies Executive
LINKS
Advice Centre Advisors
Scarborough Executive
Community Volunteering
Union Council
Student Media

What’s the commitment?
Students working towards Hi-lights commit to the scheme for one academic year. How does it work?

The overall aim is for students to put together a portfolio documenting voluntary work. This portfolio is made up of a reflective diary and a series of exercises you can complete at your own pace. You will also be able to access a number of training sessions and workshops which will complement your progress through the course and offer you the chance to broaden your horizons with a series of diverse workshops including first aid and employability skills.

After a minimum of one year’s involvement, you will be invited to submit your portfolio for assessment. Candidates who show motivation, enthusiasm and a determination to challenge themselves and excel in their chosen area will be recommended for the award which will be presented at HUU’s annual Volunteer Awards.

How do I sign up?
You will be able to apply when recruitment starts again at the start of the next academic year. You are just required to fill out a form.
