► Disabilities

Volunteer spec:

Volunteers need to be friendly, sociable and happy to chat about anything! Just like the Older People projects, it’s really important for you to be reliable as the participants get more out of the projects when they have a rapport with the students. You need to be enthusiastic, outgoing, caring and patient.

Training for volunteers in this Area will include:
• Health and Safety

• Building friendships

• Listening and communication

• Activity ideas

• Safeguarding vulnerable adults

Projects available:

Trekkers
Project Co-ordinators: TBC

What: A social project which involves organising trips and activities for adults with learning disabilities. The project means the participants get to mix with a variety of different people and build their confidence. Pizza Hut is a favourite destination!

When and where: Volunteers will meet the minibus on campus and will be dropped off on campus at the end of the project. The project goes out on Wednesday evenings during term time. All the activities take place in the local area.

How to apply: complete HUSSO application form, which you can collect from and return to the Volunteering Helpdesk on the First Floor of the Union. These will be available when recruitment starts again, which we will keep you informed about.

Ready Trek
Project coordinators: TBC

What: A social project for adults with learning disabilities. It is similar to Trekkers but includes activities and destinations which are slightly more adventurous such as rock climbing and Xscape. The project helps the participants to grow in confidence and challenge themselves in a safe, supported environment.

When and where: The project goes out fortnightly on Saturdays during university term time. These trips tend to be full days, usually around 10am to 3pm.

How to apply: complete HUSSO application form, which you can collect from and return to the Volunteering Helpdesk on the First Floor of the Union. These will be available when recruitment starts again, which we will keep you informed about.
