Volunteer specification:
Education and Mentoring volunteers will work closely with individual pupils and so will need to be able to relate well to children and be sensitive and empathic. You will need to be non-judgemental and have good communication and listening skills. You should also be able to motivate and encourage others.
Training for this Area will include:

Projects available:
GCSE Support
Project Co-ordinator: TBC
What: Assisting GCSE pupils with maths and science revision. The project is hopefully going to expand to encompass other subjects as well as offer students the opportunity to help out as classroom assistants. This is excellent experience for anyone thinking of applying to do a PGCE.
When and where: Sir Henry Cooper School on Orchard Park on weekdays during school hours. Times and dates of sessions will be arranged with the school.

Primary Reading Support
Project coordinator: TBC
What: Helping primary schoolchildren with their reading and helping them to develop a love of books and reading. When and where: This project takes place at Ings Primary School in Hull. The project currently has two groups that visit the school weekly, one group on Wednesday mornings and one on Thursday mornings.

UCAS Support Project
Project Co-ordinator: TBC
What: This is a new project which aims to help sixth form students with filling in their UCAS forms and personal statements. University students can also share their own experiences of applying to university and the admissions process. When and Where: Volunteering will take place at lunchtimes (approx 1-1.30pm at the school) or as an after school session (approx 3.30-4.15pm). Let us know when you would be available and we will try to work out a time that is good for the group.
