Unison is the largest public sector Union, and thus is often in the news. Unison have helped HULC over the years with advice, campaign materials and the occasional free pint! We look forward to another year of co-operation, friendship, and shared work. Our current contact with Unison is a past general secretary of HULC, which means our ties are closer than ever.

Background!

Unison is the second largest trade union in Britain, with more than 1.3 million members.

Its members are people working in the public services, for private contractors providing public services and in the essential utilities. They include frontline staff and managers working full or part time in local authorities, the NHS, the police service, colleges and schools, the electricity, gas and water industries, transport and the voluntary sector. Last year UNISON recruited 155,000 new members - 425 per day.

UNISON members have a very direct way of getting their message across to politicians - through political lobbying. When you join UNISON you are given the opportunity to opt in to what we call the UNISON Labour Link.

The union is a member of the TUC and affiliated to the Labour Party.
